The following article was written by my primary & most influential yoga teacher, Bob Butera (aka YogaBob) and posted on Gaim’s website. If you are looking to deeper your yoga practice & move into the mental, emotional benefits as well as the physical – this is a good place to start. In this article Bob looks at & explains the symbolism behind the asanas.
I’m not good at picking favorites but an asana that resonates loudly with me has always been Natarajasana (Dancer’s Pose). Not just because of my years of ballet training, but because of the meaning behind the pose I feel within me while practicing it. Dancer’s pose develops both concentration & balance. As it opens my chest & shoulders I feel my heart opening with grace, confidence & abundance. It helps to release old emotions & balances the Anahata (heart) chakra.
